  • Gordon & Smith
College classmates Larry Gordon and Floyd Smith started blowing foam surfboard blanks in Floyd’s garage back in 1959. Two years later, the Gordon & Smith (G&S) label was the most popular surfboard brand in San Diego, California. G&S shapes found their way under the feet of some of the hottest surfers through the longboard years including Mike Hynson, Skip Frye, Dale Dobson, and Barry Kanaiaupuni. In 1974 they introduced the G&S Modern Machine, an ancestor to today’s funboard. Though Floyd sold his interest in the company to Larry in 1971, the duo created a brand that has sold an estimated 100,000 surfboards since its inception.
