The classic San Diego fish. San Diego Native Bob Simmons discovers the notion of two fins and the concept of 2 rails moving through the water independently in the mid 1940's. Bear and Nick Mirandon of La Jolla split the tail of Simmons' two finned design into a "Twin Pin" in the 60's and in the 70's a Sunset Cliffs local, Steve Liss brings us home to the little board that has made a big comeback. This fish is wide, flat and fast. And, contrary to what you may have heard, this design excels in well shaped and hollow waves as well as in the average swell. The fish is to be ridden off the front foot and from rail to rail with each turn adding speed down the line. Keep your stance narrowed and compress and extend through your turns. Look for your keeled fish to be at least 8" shorter than your average shortboard... say, 5' 10" for a 6' dude that weighs around 200 lbs.
